I Heart Confessions

You know I mean Sophie Kinsella’s Confessions of a Shopaholic, of course- the book series that truly understands how some girls, present company included, have a hard time hiding their love of all things shopping.

With the world economy being what it is, however, I have to admit that I was a little wary of the new film based on the first book of the series. Would the subject matter be in poor taste, in these days when even Vogue is publishing lists of “gifts below $10″?

Turns out, I had nothing to worry about: the film – like the book- is fun, smartly done, and most importantly, entertaining. As I sat through the movie, watching the adorable Isla Fisher being adorable, I forgot about my own- er- shopaholicness. Some things were over the top, yes, but the book prepared me for that. I’m looking forward to the sequel(s) now.

Did you see Confessions of a Shopaholic? What did you think?

To Kindle or Not to Kindle

I hope you all had lovely Valentine’s Days! In spite of all the commercialism and great expectations, any occasion that celebrates love is, as Martha would say, a good thing in my book. And speaking of books… I’ve been considering ordering myself a Kindle. I love the idea of taking this with me everywhere, and being able to buy and download books and newspapers wirelessly. I am worried that I’ll hate reading off a screen- since I love paper so much!

If you have one, do you love it? Is it worth the $399?

Leather Journal

Leather JournalI love a good journal, and this is one of the best I’ve ever seen. It’s made of tooled leather, with a beaded cord to keep it closed. The type of journal that’ll keep for years and years, and still look great all scratched up and used. $26.95 at Barnes & Noble.

Catching up with Harry

harrypotter-wand.jpgIf, like me, you’ve placed your order for the next Harry Potter book and are waiting in anticipation, you might want to check out Remember, Remember: Books One to Six over at Harry Potter Time.

It includes a short summary on each of the first six of J.K. Rowling’s books, highlighting major plot points and memorable quotes from each book. For example, the memorable quote for Book One is:

“If there is one thing Voldemort cannot understand, it is love. He didn’t realize that love as powerful as your mother’s for you leaves its own mark. Not a scar, no visible sign … to have been loved so deeply, even though the person who loved us is gone, will give us some protection forever.” – Dumbledore to Harry

Remember that quote? I loved it the first time I read it, and I still love it. Read Remember, Remember: Books One to Six at Harry Potter Time.
